As an educator I am committed to quality education for all. How can we re-capture our #1 place?
•Restructuring equal funding for schools across the country is imperative. At present, our academic ranking puts us behind most 1st world and emerging nations. Investing in excellent educational opportunities will improve our job force and our economy. We can't just rely on a few outstanding educational institutions.
•College should become a free opportunity. Countries offering free college to their students have successfully provided jobs for their citizens. In the USA we have lost jobs due to the numbers of under-educated and trained people.
•Multi-sensory learning has proven its value to students of all ages and abilities.
•Small classes provide creative interaction and encourage discovery.
•Life-long learning opportunities for new job training or for personal enrichment is necessary for a strong nation.
•Apprentice learning programs should be instituted at little or no cost.
•Access to high-speed broadband is needed throughout the country.
More thoughts on Education...An educated society is a productive and fulfilled society. When elected, it is my hope to become a member of the Congressional Committee for Education and Labor to affect change. Did you know that according to the Alliance for Excellent Education 7,000 students drop out of school every day in the United States? That creates drastic problems in innovation, home life, and in our job and financial markets. In 2009, 6.900 students in West Virginia dropped out of school. We need to look at our educational system with new eyes.
